Description:

After the Franco-Prussian war in 1870-1, which was manipulated by Bismarck, ended in favour of the Prussians, Germany was finally able to unify its states into one German Empire. In doing so it also claimed the areas of Alsace and Lorraine, which angered the French even more after their humiliating loss. That brought on more hostility from France towards Germany and played a great role in the lead up to WW1.
