nov 24, 1832 - South Carolina Nullification Crisis

Description:

A tariff passed in 1828 that left the South unprotected and angry. South Carolina threatened to secede, but president Jackson claimed that this was treason. A compromise was made, which gradually lowered the tariff over the course of 10 years. The threat of secession was later used to ignite the Civil war.
