Ever since I started fencing competitively, I have gained friends, strengthened hobbies, and created a closer connection to my parents, but I have lost many things. Many would say that this should not be part of a timeline, but I believe that when you give your heart and soul to something and sacrifice the hours to accomplish your goals, it is part of a family timeline. The sacrifice of family time, or just free time in general has decreased over the years. My annual trips to L.A. have become a decade trip; connections with peers from school have faded; yet in one way or another, I have gained many qualities, such as confidence, self-respect, and responsibility. Fencing is a big part of my life and later on in the years, I think my family will appreciate this major hobby of mine - sports really can change you forever.
