may 26, 1972 - SALT Treaty
Description:
Signed in 1972 between Brezhnev of the Soviet Union and president of U.S Richard Nixon which ensured a period of detente (improvement of American-Soviet relations). During the seven years, both parties agreed to limit the number of nuclear warheads and missiles each country could maintain. It didn't end the arms race; but it did slow it significantly.
