Description:
During the 1960 presidential race, J.F. Kennedy had campaigned on the theme of restoring the strength & prestige the U.S had lost after the embarrassment of the U-2 spying incident. After the superpowers realized need to end the arms race, they planned a four power summit for Paris in May 1960. Shortly before the Paris summit, the Soviets shot down an American U-2 spy plane over their territory and captured its pilot.Added to timeline:
