Harris was part of the initial investigation by the California AG's office but for the most part was not involved because her predecessor and then congressional representative Xavier Becerra took over for her so she could begin her term as a US senator.
Charges dropped six months later as the grand jury operated outside its scope.

In March 2017 Daleiden was indicted on separate and more severe charges mostly related to privacy. His case is still ongoing.
