Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka came up with the idea of the Legend of Zelda. They started making the game in 1984. Miyamoto produced the game and Tezuka came up with the story and the script, while Toshihiko Nakago, a partner of Nintendo, did most of the programming.
The Legend of Zelda was a big hit, and quickly grew in popularity. Now there are about 20 main Zelda games and about 10 spin-offs, My favorites being Breath of The Wild, Majora's Mask, and Tears of The Kingdom.
