By the end of World War II, Korea was politically divided between a communist government in the north and an American-backed government in the south. As Korea was being divided, military built up for both types of governments and were used for protection against border clashes. The North received military aid from the communist Soviet Union, quickly building up to be used for an invasion into the south of Korea. The North's invasion of the South signified one of the first major pursuit for communism globally. As the invasion rapidly drove back poorly equipped the South Korean military, the US saw an opportunity to soon act upon.
