Who: The University of Utah (UoU).
What: The considerable role that UoU played in the creation of internet. In 1969, it was one of the four nodes that constituted ARPANET which predecessor to modern internet.
When: In December 1969, ARPANET added the UoU as its fourth node.
Why is this important in the history of CS?: The early development of internet was essential for UoU participation in ARPANET. It showcased the university’s leading efforts in computer science research and particularly graphics, opening a way for rapid penetration of the internet throughout all aspects of global communication, information accessing as well as tech industry.
