In January 1816 the first ever public hospital was opened in Sydney Australia.
The rum hospital got its name from the government and allowed the 3 contributors to import and sell 60,000 gallon spirits.
There were 3 parts of the Rum Hospital The south wing, the central wing and the north wing, While the south wing and north wing of the hospital accommodated the assistant surgeon and principal surgeon to stay at. The central wing was to accommodate the sick convict patients.
In 1854 the south wing of the Rum hospital was changed into the mint for the government.
