By now Caliphate forces remaining on the plateau were mobilizing, and often operating without input from the main Empire back in the East, which was still locked in civil war. A large army departed from Ikonion, moving to retake Amorium in 666, but there they met Romanos in battle. Here Roman numbers, and the zeal of the soldiers, played a decisive role against the Arabs, who were shattered and routed, allowing Iconium to be taken without additional resistance.Added to timeline:
