oct 19, 1781 - British Surrender

Description:

With help from a French army, George Washington cornered the British army into the Yorktown peninsula in Virginia (1). Lord Charles Cornwallis, over the British forces, was forced to surrender and sent his deputy to do so (2). This event was key in the lead-up to the Constitution because it ended the American Revolutionary War and allowed the United States of America to create its own government (3). It influenced the creation of the Constitution because it proved the US to be an internationally recognized country, as seen in their alliance with France.
