jan 1, 1789 - U.S. Constitution adopted
Description:
In the U.S. Constitution, 27 amendments were established and the first 10 were called the "Bill of Rights." The first amendment established a principle called "Separation of Church and State" which we still have in place today. They made it to where anything government-related could not be involved with religion. They could not establish one primary religion either. With this amendment, schools were no longer religion-based. This helped students who were not religious or Christian feel more welcome in a classroom. To this day, the "Separation of Church and State" is still in place and helps our students all feel included and special.
