Description:

This act was put into place for religious purposes. They wanted people in their society to know the bible and not fall for "Satan's Trickery." This act required every town to hire a teacher for reading or writing if the town had over fifty households. This was the first time that education was seen as a positive in society. Schools became important to people and needed in society just like they are today. This was for sure a first for the settlers.
