In 1607 the first permanent settlement in North America, Jamestown, was formed. This settlement was centered around religion. These settlers believed their purpose was to spread the gospel and convert the other settlers. They began to form colonial schools. Only wealthy white men attended these schools. No women, people of color, or poor people were allowed to attend. This affected the education system today because it was the basis and foundation of our education systems. It created many problems with the education system that people had to find a way to fix and improve but it was a foundation to build off of.
