Description:

Danes persued Saxons west following battle of Reading. Alfred, leading Ethelreds army, famously blew the ancient perforated 'sarson stone' to muster men to his defence from the surrounding area.

The battle consisted mainly of a clash of shield walls - once the danish shield wall was breached, it was fairly straightforward for the saxons to drive through and cut down their attackers. the result was a saxon victory, albeit with great cost to both sides.
