may 7, 1954 - Brown v Board
Description:
On May 7, 1954, speaking for a unanimous court, Chief Justice Earl Warren, recently appointed by President Eisenhower, handed won the decision. "In the field of public education", he read, "the doctrine of separate but equal has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." Brown destroyed the legal basis for Jim Crow. It was the capstone of liberal anticommunism, a personal triumph for Thurgood Marshall, and the NAACP's greatest victory. -Adam Fairclough, Better Day Coming
