Margot Robbie is on board to star in a new female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actress is reuniting with Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson for a different take at the swashbuckling fantasy series.

Insiders have revealed that Hodson has been called upon to take the reigns of the new Pirates movie for Disney with Aussie actress Margot the star of the show.

Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley had starred in the original trilogy, which became one of the most lucrative film franchises in box office history.

Hodson's movie will steer away from the popular Jack Sparrow focused films and move attention to totally new characters and plotlines, according to the Reporter.

The new project is said to be separate from the already announced reboot of the Pirates franchise that has original writer Ted Elliott at the helm along with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.

Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is said to be producing both movies.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean- The Curse of the Black Pearl - was usually inspired by a Disney theme park ride that opened in 1967.

The long flume based heavily on pirate legends and folklore, was one of the last amusements overseen by Walt Disney before his death.

The enormous success of the debut Pirates movie in 2003 sparked a huge franchise that included four more movies, action figures, novels and video games based on the characters.

Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack Sparrow earned him an Academy Award nomination in 2004 in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category.

He lost out to Seann Penn for his turn as James 'Jimmy' Markum' in neo-noir mystery drama Mystic River.

The last Pirates movie was Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017, with Depp reprising his role as Sparrow alongside Javier Bardem and Kaya Scodelario.
