Truman asked Congress for $400 million to fight communism. This foreign policy came after the USSR showed aggression to Turkey in attempts to take control of their strait, the Dardanelles. Also at this time, the UK was fighting a group of guerilla fighters in Greece who wanted to overthrow the government and instill a communist government. The money that Truman got approved by Congress was used throughout the Cold War to help fight communism by supporting the militaries and economies of capitalist countries. It was also a political show of opposition to communism in the USA. It displayed the will of the USA to fight communism and showed support of the Cold War.
