aug 24, 640 - Battle of Adana

Description:

In 640, Justinian II departed for Asia Minor to launch a campaign to retake Syria. Tarsos fell to Justinian II, who set up a strong position there before Al-Walid could race the army from Mesopotamia to Cilicia. Persia took the chance to recover, transferring more men to the border and strengthened the fortresses guarding their remaining territory.

Then Justinian II pressed toward Antioch, and met Mu'awiya's army near Adana. The battle was a defeat for the Romans, who were forced to retreat back into Tarsus and trapped at there.
