In 2007, Frances Scott, had a revelation: her daughter, age 9, had just been elected to a school council – with a boy – because it makes sense to hear boys’ and girls’ perspectives and then make decisions based on both experiences. It was not until 2013, six years later, that she went on to set up 50:50 Parliament after another daughter said “Stop talking about it – do something!”

Like many good ideas, 50:50 Parliament was founded on a simple premise: the need for men and women to have equal representation and build the future together.
