After Epstein's death, his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, came into the spotlight.
She was arrested in July 2020 at her secluded mansion in the US state of New Hampshire on suspicion of having assisted Epstein's abuse of minors by helping to recruit and groom victims known to be underage.
In December 2021, a jury in New York City found her guilty on five out of six counts, including the most serious charge - that of sex trafficking of a minor. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison, meaning the 60-year-old could spent the rest of her life behind bars.
