Description:
As the bulgar march, Romanos II soon took his action, he assembled an army of fifteen thousand under the generals Prokopios Krenites and Kourtikios. In the ensuing battle of Odessus, the Romans were defeated and their commanders perished. Most of them were captured and Simeon had their noses cut and "sent them in the Constantinople for shame of the Romans". The Bulgarians looted the region and retired to the north taking many captives.
