jul 22, 1965 - Norman Osborn is born

Description:

Norman Virgil Osborn was born to Ambrose and Elizabeth Osborn. Norman was born in Manhattan, New York.

Norman Osborn would come to be known as the Green Goblin.

Other Alias: Red Goblin, Devil Goblin

Norman was born in an upper-class family that would quickly fall into poverty, with his father being an untalented businessman who always aspired for greatness, and his loving stay-at-home mother. Ambrose was an insecure alcoholic man who would regularly beat Norman and his mother while blaming his shortcomings on others. With his inadequacies, Ambrose would lose his family’s fortune and ability to do business, owning the company name in the end. This would create hatred in Norman for others who develop excuses for failures or mistakes.

Norman would attend Empire State University in Manhattan, double-majoring in business and chemistry. While attending college, he would come to meet his future wife, Emily Lyman, and his future business partner and best friend turned enemy, Otto Octavius, as well as his mentor, who would help him to found his new company while providing his expertise in weapon development, Mendel Stromm.

Norman would quickly found a company after graduating from college with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Engineering. He would name the company OsCorp as he utilized all his and his wife's savings as an investment, making him the majority shareholder. Norman would lead the chemistry department of OsCorp, focusing on different effects, but would come to secretly working on bio-weapons and chemicals to create super-powered individuals for weapons with the intention of being the creator of the next Captain America.

Early in OsCorps' development, Norman would become focused on growing the business while acting as the face of the company, obsessing over gaining power and influence in his industry, hoarding it greedily. He would push to expand OsCorps fields of development, such as weapon and bio-weapon development, hoping to bring his secret projects into the light for greater funding and recognition; however, he would be vetoed by Otto and Mendel. Norman would continue to work on these projects in secret and would begin to collect scientists from other companies and fields that were unhappy with the limitations enforced on them to stay within ethical and moral standards.

Norman would find himself in competition with Harold Stark and would have a negative first experience as he displayed his vast knowledge in various fields of engineering and design, while pointing out flaws in designs created by Norman himself. Norman would be infuriated by another showing themselves as superior to him. Norman would also take offense to discover that Stark did not have connections to illegal activities but would befriend Howard’s business partner, Obadiah Stane, with the intention of overthrowing the Starks and installing Obadiah as the head of the company, although this would never come to pass as they intended.

However, OsCorp would soon face various issues and begin to collapse, with all contracts and grants being lost, nearly costing Norman everything, including his company. Norman would discover that Mendel had been gaining various allies in the company and was intentionally weakening it with the intention of gaining control and removing Norman from power.

Norman would soon be visited one night in his office by Mephisto. A powerful entity of unknown origin that knew various things about Norman's life and gave multiple hints of his future. Mephisto would offer Norman success, influence, and the power to crush his enemies. Mephisto would manipulate Norman, telling him of secrets unknown to others while describing his current situation as “unfair”. Mephisto would present Norman with two options, one where Mephisto would leave and Norman would forget they ever met, or he would accept his proposition and would find unimagined success. However, there would be a price for this success, for this deal Norman would need to give his soul (servitude after death), his health (his ability to feel love and empathy toward others), and his dream (a future with his wife). Norman, believing these would not affect him, quickly agreed to the demon’s offer, damning himself and condemning his wife to death.

After his deal, Norman would find great success in his company, growing rapidly until it became a corporation rival to companies such as Stark Industries. However, as time went on, more of Norman’s emotions became numb with his company amassing as much wealth as possible being his primary focus, not even being present at the birth of his son, Harry Osborn. Due to his deal with Mephisto, Norman’s wife Emily would be diagnosed with an genetic illness that was fatal; however, by this point, he had found the issue to be nothing more an a distraction from his work.

Eventually, Norman would centralize power in his company, with him outing Otto Octavius, where he would later actively interfere in Otto’s work, taking pleasure in the struggles he was able to put his former friend through. Worse still, Norman had Mendel Stromm, and his lab assistant, Nels van Adder, disappear from society and had them imprisoned in one of his secret labs, where he conducted various tests on them for his super soldier test serums.

OsCorp would gain various military and city contracts to utilize their products, growing rapidly into one of the greatest corporations on the planet. Norman would continue to seek various ways to expand his influence and power. He would build various connections with criminal groups and organizations to expand his potential revenues of resources and data. After various experiments, Norman would create a Class-5 unstable serum that grants superhuman abilities but would negatively affect the user mentally to various degrees. This compound would be identified as OSB-GG-64, also known as the Green Goblin Serum. Norman would utilize this serum on himself, granting him amazing abilities but causing him to hear voices in his head that supported his dark desires.

Norman would go on to become a masked super villain that sought to spread chaos while developing a powerful underworld empire that would support his legitimate company. Norman would take the moniker of the Green Goblin and would become one of the most evil villains in history, as well as the greatest foe of the legendary Spider-Man.
