12h 15min, may 25, 2020 y - MEDIA COVERAGE 24 -29 May 2020 L'Oréal faces backlash over Amber Heard #WomenMakeCinema tribute

Description:

L'Oreal condones domestic violence

By Jeanne Larson

Even though more evidence against comes to light almost daily about what a monster Amber Heard is, L’Oréal continues to employ her as a spokesmodel. But Heard’s fate has yet to be officially confirmed in a court of law.

For L’Oréal, though, Heard’s innocence or guilt shouldn't really be the issue. The suspicion should have been enough. After all, if a man were accused of half the things Amber Heard has done, he would have been sacked on the spot. The fact that Amber Heard continues to be a spokesperson for L’Oréal can only mean that the brand condones domestic violence and abusers. They are firmly in their corner.

A responsible company that cares about the rights of abused people would have immediately distanced themselves from Heard. At the least, they would have withdrawn her images from public circulation whilst they awaited the outcome of the trial.

Instead, L’Oréal has done exactly the opposite, posting images of Amber Heard over the weekend, praising her for her inner strength and beauty. To add insult to injury, the very next image they posted was a pair of pink boxing gloves, further teasing at their support of violent behavior.

The outrage on Twitter was immediate and definite. It’s a slap in the face to all domestic violence survivors, and quite a few people didn’t hesitate to say so.

A LOT of people have sworn to boycott L’Oréal and the companies it owns - including Maybelline, Garnier, and Lancôme. I’m one of those people. I won’t touch anything those companies make, from hair care to lipstick. I’ll buy the 99 cent knockoffs at the dollar store first.

If L’Oréal continues to endorse a known abuser, they will find themselves on the wrong side of history. There’s no telling what damage they stand to suffer. For a beauty company, it certainly won’t be pretty. And they will have only themselves to blame.
