Description:
1 Kings 12/3215th day of the 8th month, Jeroboam instituted false offerings to false gods in the form of golden calves on alters he had set up in Dan and the other the House of El (Bethel).
He was worried about his own skin after the northern tribes installed another king outside the line of Judah, and he was concerned that his kingship would be lost and the nation united again under the house of David. v26
"These be your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt" v28
He elevated to priest status people from the lowest echelons of life v31 and taking away the legitimacy of the Levitical Priesthood left them to fare for themselves without any inheritence.
