12h 30min, dec 4, 1974 y - Laurie Lynn Partridge
DISAPPEARANCE
Description:
Laurie Partridge, 17, left Ferris High School in Spokane, WA early, at 12:30pm, because she was suffering from menstrual cramps. She was unable to find a ride home, so she decided to walk the 2mi to her home in the 5400 block of south Custer St in Spokane.
She was last seen walking south on Havana St near 37th Ave on Spokane's South Hill. Witnesses reported seeing a green Ford Pinto station wagon in the area at the time, possibly following Laurie. She never arrived home. Her parents reported her missing after she failed to report for work that evening at the Lincoln Heights Theater.
A witness (who didn't come forward until ~2011) stated that they allegedly saw Laurie at 4:15pm, several hours after the last confirmed sighting of her; a white man in his 40s or 50s, as well as a white truck with a dark-colored door and a van back end were nearby.
At the time she disappeared, Laurie and her 20yo boyfriend were hoping to get married. The two of them were planning on selecting an engagement ring on the day of her disappearance. Her boyfriend was interviewed extensively, but was never named as a suspect.
Dec. 6: The contents of Laurie's purse were located in the area where she was last seen.
Some time before her disappearance, Laurie's father had bought her tickets to a Beach Boy concert. The concert took place on Mon., Dec. 9, 1974 (5 days after her disappearance) at the Spokane Arena. Police went to the concert to see if Laurie would arrive there; they did not see her. It was determined, however, that Laurie's tickets were in fact used, though authorities were unable to find out who used them.
Laurie had moved to Spokane from California just a few months before she disappeared, and she had reportedly said that she would like to return to CA.
She was initially believed by investigators to be a runaway, however her family never believed that, and police have since changed their opinion. It's now agreed upon that Laurie was likely taken against her will. Foul play is suspected in her case. Three suspects have been questioned regarding her case over the years, but no one has been charged. For a time, she was believed to be a possible victim of Ted Bundy, however this is no longer the case. She has 23 rule-outs on NamUs.
