jan 1, 1930 - Art Students League in New York

Description:

Along with his brother Charles Pollock, Jackson trained under Thomas Hart Benton - a mural and regional painter. Benton's style of art included realistic paintings, murals, lithographs and illustrations that captured rural and small-town America. Training under Benton allowed Pollock to become more comfortable around larger canvases as murals are generally quite grand.

During Jackson's stay in New York, he posed for Thomas Hart Benson's 1930-1931 murals at the New School for Social Research
and met Mexican muralist, José Clemente Orozco. Orozco was a realist painter who is best known for his large-scale expansive works. He also spent a summer observing Diego Rivera, a Mexican muralist - who also was inspired by surrealism, paint murals at the New Workers School.
