oct 7, 1973 - Operation Model 5

Description:

Operation Model 5 (Hebrew: דוגמן 5, Doogman 5) was an Israeli Air Force operation during the Yom Kippur War, aimed at destroying Syrian SAM batteries over the Golan Heights on October 7, 1973. The plan involved aircraft approaching targets at low altitudes to avoid radar detection and dropping unguided bombs. However, outdated intelligence and weak electronic capabilities led to the failure of the mission, with six F-4 Phantoms lost and several damaged, and only one SAM battery destroyed. This failure prompted Israel to develop a more effective strategy for suppressing enemy air defenses, culminating in the successful Operation Mole Cricket 19 in 1982, which destroyed a Soviet-made SAM network in hours.
