jan 1, 1993 - The founding of the PAF

Description:

Palestinian Arab Front (PAF; Arabic: الجبهة العربية الفلسطينية Al-Jabhet Al-'Arabiya Al-Falestiniyeh) is a minor Palestinian nationalist faction and a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

History:
The PAF emerged from the Arab Liberation Front (ALF), which was established in 1968 by the Iraqi Ba'ath Party to counter the Syrian-based Ba'athist faction al-Sa'iqa within the PLO. In 1993, a split in the ALF, driven by opposition to the Oslo Accords and Iraqi policy, led to the formation of the PAF. The PAF held its first conference in Palestine from May 15-17, 1997, and gradually aligned with Fatah and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), diverging from the ALF’s allegiance to Baghdad. The PAF has shown verbal support for the 2000 uprising against Israeli occupation but its actual military involvement is unclear.

In the 2005 presidential elections, the PAF supported Mahmoud Abbas. The group participated in the 2006 legislative elections with the "Freedom and Independence" list, which received 0.44% of the vote, failing to secure parliamentary seats.

Policies:
The PAF advocates for:

The right of Palestinian refugees to return as per UN Resolution 194.
The establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
The release of Palestinian hostages, dismantling the Israeli West Bank barrier, and evacuation of Israeli settlements from the West Bank.
It also supports Arab unity, political integration of Arab states, strengthening the Arab League, and increased Arab economic cooperation. The PAF promotes increased participation of women in Palestinian society and opposes corruption and favoritism.

Organization:
The PAF is led by a Central Committee and a Politburo. Jameel Shihadeh ('Abu Khaled') serves as General Secretary, with Salim al-Bardeni as Secretary of the Central Committee. The group publishes the magazine Al-Jamahir ("The Masses") and the bulletin At-Tajdid ("Renewal"). It is part of both the PLO and the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces coalition.
