25yo; Marsha’s last name is alternatively spelled “Funderbunk.” She was last seen in Jacuma, CA (where she lived) on Sept. 8, 1985.

Sept. 26: An anonymous man called the Sheriff's Dept. He said he saw Marsha lying in an open area south of the intersection of Old Highway 80 and Crestwood near Live Oak Springs Rd in Pine Valley.

Police found her lying on her right side, knees flexed at a right angle. She wore a red plaid shirt, a black t-shirt, and brown suede shoes with rubber soles. A scarf was wrapped around her lower face and neck. Her blue jeans had been pulled down to her ankles, making it look as if she'd been raped. No sperm was found on her body. Sand and dirt filled her mouth and throat. She had $36.87 in a pocket. Her Ancestry profile says that she died on Sept. 8.

I found this case when it was mentioned in an article about the 1978 unsolved murder of Barbara Nantais, who was also found murdered in San Diego County with sand stuffed in her mouth. Funderburk is not listed among the San Diego County Sheriff's cold cases. According to Wikipedia, Marsha is considered a possible victim of the San Diego serial killer(s), who killed prostitutes and/or drug users in SD from 1985-1990.
