Description:

33yo; was walking home after getting off the bus. At/shortly before 9pm, she was walking along Pine Hill Rd in Tamalpais Valley, Marin County. A light-colored car — described by Watson as a late model Ford or Chevrolet sedan — swerved in front of Watson, knocking her to the ground.

The driver then got out of the car, apologizing, then twice offered to drive her home. She politely refused both offers, and the man became angry.
He then began to "pummel" her about the head and shoulders with his fists. Watson began to scream, attracting nearby friends. The man then fled. Only after her attacker fled did Watson realize that she had been stabbed in the upper back and neck.

Friends brought Watson to Marin General Hospital, and she survived. She described her attacker as a man with heavy-rimmed black glasses, in his early 40s (and/or ~40yo), ~5'8-5'9, stocky, and with brown or black hair.

Capt. Ken Narlow of Napa said that he had a feeling that the attack was done by the Zodiac, and that the description of the attacker matched that of the Zodiac. However, Lt Richard Gaddinni of the Marin City substation of the Marin County Sheriff's Dept. didn't agree; he said at the time (in an Apr. 19, 1972 newspaper clipping) that he has several leads for his investigation into the attack on Watson, but the Zodiac isn't one. Still, there are those in the Zodiac investigation online community who think Watson was attacked by the Zodiac.
