A spokesman for Heard's legal team hit back, however, saying: 'Ms. Heard's testimony is clear that, in the incident described, she was attempting to escape an assault at the hands of Mr. Depp.

'It is unfortunately common for men who have committed domestic abuse to present themselves as the 'victim' when nothing could be further from the truth.'

FROM THE PRESS ASSOCIATION:

A spokeswoman for Ms Heard said: "As she has demonstrated, Amber is willing to give evidence on what she was subjected to, no matter the obstacles involved, and from the other side of the Atlantic.

"Mr Depp, on the other hand, will not even make the effort to leave his palatial estate in the south of France. That speaks volumes."
