14h 29min, jun 5, 1955 y - The 1955 Senatorial Bombing
Description:
After the Senatorial Elections of 1955, anti-fascist extremists set off a bomb on the steps of the Capitol Building of the Republic while the newly elected Speaker of the Senate was revealing the results. The bombing killed 13 people, most notably the new Speaker of the Senate, Senator Vẽcal Sošti of Yelša Illejav and previous Speaker Wodov Lítõma of Mõrõp Iõ. 6 other senators had been killed as well and Tsĩvgalè Tasak had been critically injured leaving scarring on the right side of his face. Others killed were soldiers and civilians.
Due to the bombing, Tasak was in the hospital for over 2 months, healing from his wounds. Once he was released, he greatly expanded the investigation into the bombing, using soldiers to forcefully abduct or arrest possible suspects. All suspects, whether completely innocent or not, were placed in the Arkek Prison Complex and either died there, were moved to labor or death camps, or were released after the fall of Tasak. Over 45 suspects had been identified during the investigation, including future senator Hèrňèr Bithoṡ who was eventually released in 1965.
