Over the past week, as the Western world has shut down, many have tried their best to maintain a sort of normalcy. Some people are, say, FaceTiming with friends, saying sláinte through a screen. Others are putting on pants when they wake up, like real employees. Still more are applying for unemployment so they can pay rent and buy food.
Johnny Depp is planning to head from France to England in order to continue his libel lawsuit against the parent company of The Sun, according to Page Six. He has a hearing scheduled for Monday, and a judge will rule tomorrow whether it will move forward as planned. Depp sued Sun parent company News Group Newspapers (NGN) over a 2018 story about his behavior toward ex-wife Amber Heard during their marriage (the two finalized their divorce in January 2017). He is claiming that the accusations cost him his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and denies all wrongdoing.
Depp’s U.K. lawyer, David Sherborne, has claimed that Depp was the victim, not the aggressor, in the former couple’s altercations. “One person, one side, is lying, and one is not,” Sherborne has said. “Obviously, we say that it is Ms. Heard [who is lying], Mr. Depp is 100% clear about that.” (Depp is also suing Heard herself back in the States for allegations made via op-ed in the Washington Post, though now most U.S. courts are closed.)
Heard will press forward as well, by plane or by video, as a spokesperson told Emily Smith of Page Six: “Amber…is very eager for the U.K. trial to proceed.... Ms. Heard believes that the truth coming to light through the presentation of evidence in court will finally put an end to this abusive campaign. If she is required to testify in person, Ms. Heard will travel to London if she is legally permitted to do so…Otherwise Ms. Heard will make sure that she is available to testify [via] video.”
