On July 1st, 2024, when the zombie apocalypse began, the reactor core in the Backrooms laboratory melted down. Surprisingly, the immediate consequences were relatively minor. The molten reactor material simply flowed across the floor of the reactor room and appeared to cause no further damage. However, this situation did not remain stable. Over time, radiation emitted by the molten material began to spread throughout the entire reactor chamber. What had once been a hazardous but manageable area gradually became completely inaccessible. Even more concerning was the fact that radiation levels continued to rise, becoming significantly stronger than they had been immediately after the meltdown. This development created a major obstacle for future operations. Any plans to repair or stabilize the reactor now faced a far greater challenge than originally anticipated. Reaching the damaged core would require dealing not only with the zombie-infested surroundings and the anomalies connected to the Backrooms portal, but also with a reactor room that had become lethally radioactive. What had initially seemed like a contained accident was evolving into yet another crisis within the already worsening catastrophe.
