Former President Donald Trump is safe and is being examined at a medical facility near Pittsburgh after gunshots were fired at his campaign rally Saturday. He appeared to be bleeding as he was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents.

One person in the crowd is dead as a result of the shooting and another is in serious condition, Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger told NBC News. The shooter is dead, Goldinger said.

The threat has been “contained," three senior U.S. law enforcement officials told NBC News.

A Secret Service spokesperson said in a post on X that Trump is safe and that the incident is now an active investigation. The White House said that President Joe Biden is being briefed by top officials, including Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
