nov 9, 1989 - Fall of the Berlin Wall*
Description:
After WW2, eastern and western Germany were split in half. The western side was a democratic government that let their people be free, but the eastern side was under the communist control of Russia. In eastern Germany people had little to no freedom, and the people who tried to cross the Berlin wall were shot and killed by their soldiers. Their media was censored even if they had access to it, and they could never see their families on the other half of the wall. However, in 1989, when many of the eastern communist nations were under pressure by the free western nations, the USSR and other communist nations agreed to demolish the wall to improve public relations by allowing their citizens to cross the border. This led to the complete demolition of the wall, which was widely broadcast across the world.
