dec 12, 1963 - SHIP Act
Passed
Description:
Nixon's Selective Health Care Insurance Plan becomes law. It contains federal grants to states that set up children’s health programs, optional state buy-in to avoid accusations of federal overreach, encouragement of private insurance partnerships for working-class families, focus on preventative care and maternal/infant health, sliding scale subsidies instead of blanket coverage, and possibly linked to community health clinics or public hospitals already in place.
