On Saturday, January 26, 1975, Lisa Beery, 15, was kidnapped at knife point while hitchhiking near her home by Philip Joseph Hughes Jr and his wife, Suzanne Perrin

They forced her into the basement of a house in Oakland, where she was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death. Her body was wrapped in a sheet and dumped in a shallow grave in a deserted area in Contra Costa County. Her body was found in Moraga in 1979.

Philip Joseph Hughes Jr has been convicted of the murders of Maureen Field (1972), Lisa Ann Beery (1974), and Letitia Fagot (1975), all in Contra Costa County, CA. He is a possible suspect in the murder of Cosette Ellison (1970).
