On Sunday, August 3, 1969, the fully-clothed bodies of Debra Furlong, 14, and Kathie Snoozy, 15, were found on a hillside in southern Almaden Valley, San Jose, Santa Clara County, CA. Both had left their San Jose homes earlier that day to picnic at that location. Neither had been sexually assaulted.

Debra had more than 100 knife wounds, while Kathie had more than 200. All wounds on both had been afflicted above the waist, and neither girl's body bore evidence of resistance to her assailant.

In September 1971, Karl F. Werner — one of the girls' classmates at Oak Grove High School, who was 17 years old at the time of their deaths — confessed to the murders alongside that of Kathy Bilek in April 1971. He received a life sentence, and died in 2015.

Werner was residing in Marlborough, Massachusetts at the time of some of the earlier Zodiac slayings, therefore ruling him out as a suspect; I learned of Werner's crimes from an online Zodiac space that mentioned his being ruled out as a suspect.
