23h 10min, apr 10, 1962 y - Raymond Davis

Description:

Raymond Davis, 27 or 29, was a driver for the Checker Cab Company. At 11:10pm on Tuesday, April 10, 1962, Raymond picked up a fare at a downtown cab stand, possibly on Mission Ave, in Oceanside, San Diego County, CA. He notified his dispatcher that he was delivering the fare to a location in South Oceanside

At 1:45am on April 11, Ray's body was found in the exclusive, upscale neighborhood of Saint Malo, Oceanside's first gated community. He was found in an alley directly behind 1926 S Pacific, Oceanside, CA. He had been shot twice from the backseat of his cab: one shot to his back and the other to his head. He was shot with a .22 caliber pistol. After dumping the body in the alley, the killer escaped in the cab before quickly abandoning it at 400 S Pacific St.

The day before, Oceanside police received a call saying, "I am going to pull something here in Oceanside and you'll never be able to figure it out." Days after the murder, before the first call was publicly reported, the police received another call saying "Do you remember me calling you last week and telling you that I was going to pull a real baffling crime? I killed the cab driver and I am going to get me a bus driver next."
