The inability to admit defeat. Rather than sucking it up, conceding that mistakes were made and the battle was lost; there is denial, projection, rejection of what has happened, and passing the blame to anyone and anything but the themselves — the loser.

Pride is a funny thing. It feels so good when we‘re accomplished and feel great about ourselves, getting the well deserved pat on the back and round of applause. It can also cause arrant delusion and arrogance. If one is too prideful, too high on themselves, too righteous and perfect, the world begins to collapse into a kaleidoscope of selfishness, self aggrandizement, and vainglory.

For the last two weeks the mainstream media has been largely and suspiciously silent on the audio tapes released by Johnny Depp, which overwhelmingly prove his innocence in his ongoing battle with Amber Heard over domestic violence allegations. The most information has come, as usual, from Twitter, YouTube, and small blogs and their independent writers that have been trumpeting across the internet. This has caused a mass awakening, and people are now exiling Amber Heard from their lives by boycotting her film work and L’Oreal brands. The petition to have her removed from Aquaman now has over 355,000 signatures with others to remove her as spokesperson for L’Oreal and UN also gaining traction. People are paying attention and they want their feelings to be known, but it seems like it’s all falling on deaf ears with no statement from any of the above corporations and no true media attention. To date I believe Us Weekly and In Touch are some of the larger places it’s been picked up and that’s really not saying much.

On Friday Johnny Depp premiered his new film, Minamata, at the Berlin Film Festival to thunderous applause and an entire village of delighted fans championing him at every turn. The reviews have been somewhat mixed, not surprisingly. What is surprising however, is that throughout the day of various press events and interviews several articles were written with more than a pinch of salt in them. They ranged from, “Johnny Depp attempts a comeback”, to passive aggressively wondering why he wouldn’t answer questions about his personal life at a business event, to the more scathing, “Yikes, a haggard Johnny Depp as W. Eugene Smith does not do justice to the legacy of this great photographer.” They feel entitled to some kind of restitution from him, some kind of explanation for everything when it’s all been laid out in courts on two sides of the world for them to acknowledge for, at the very least, the last year.

What they really want is for it to not be happening the way that it is. They were one hundred percent conned by Amber Heard and her charade and now they are red faced with embarrassment and don’t know how to handle it. A fox invaded the hen house and now all hell has broken loose and they refuse to even acknowledge that she’s completely outed herself as an abusive sadist in any public fashion. Behind the scenes, who’s to say what may or may not be getting discussed but the fact that any discussion isn’t making it to print is more than a little alarming. It’s the suppression of evidence and truth in favor of agendas and narratives even when that which is most obvious is laid out for all the world to very easily see. The question now is why are they not reporting anything and there will come a time when they will have to answer for that silence.

As more evidence and information becomes available, which should be soon with The Sun trial slated to start in mere weeks, they won’t be able to keep hiding behind this curtain of deafening silence. The fact that they have not even been able to swallow their pride to the point of printing the straight fact that there are two audio tapes released in the public of conversations between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is frankly perturbing. I can’t help but note the essence of pure fear emanating from these publications. It has been my thought for quite some time that these people are so horrified at the idea that they got this sceanario completely ass backwards that they are now paralyzed with terror to say anything more at all. It’s their worst nightmare come to life. Not only did a woman lie about having been abused but the man she accused has provided a profound amount of evidence that she abused him.

The public as a whole has accepted this much more readily than the media, who truly seem so caught up in their intellectual masturbation they haven’t even bothered to notice that their behavior is being questioned. But I have different questions. Who the hell even are these people? Where did they derive such power to decide what is and isn’t truth, who is or isn’t worthy of praise, and who and what even are the best actors, films, and so on? Why do they think they have so much power to dictate what is and what isn’t? I’ve certainly never heard of most of the people who’ve written snide little articles about Johnny Depp in the last forever let alone the last two weeks. Who even cares about them? What do they know? Absolutely nothing. They know nothing. We, as the supporters and followers of this case, know infinitely more than they will ever know because they don’t actually care and they’ve buried themselves in sand up to their colons attempting to avoid this topic in any way, let alone a way that they have to actually be nice to Depp. And you know what that tells me? It’s not just pride. It’s not just that they can’t take a big, deep, guttural swallow and say they were wrong. It’s because this goes way back. Their hatred of him goes all the way back to the dawn of his career because he has never wanted to associate with them to begin with. He doesn’t want fame and celebrity and now this is his punishment for all those years of turning down interviews and, “never complain never explain” attitude.

These publications are now taking pride in the fact that they are ignoring this completely. It’s a different type of eye for an eye. He ignored them, now they’re going to ignore him. It’s my opinion but I think it’s as solid as any other hypothesis out there. They felt slighted by him when he was on the way up and at the very top, now that he’s been pushed off and is climbing back they give him a perceived dose of his own medicine by attempting to not even acknowledge his existence. If they have to write, as they did with Minamata, it’s with such a negative prejudice that it oozes off the page with the palpable aroma of millennium aged lutefisk. Again, I find myself asking who these people think they are with such an air of superiority and I can’t help but think that pride isn’t the only deadly sin they’re embodying. Envy seems to be making a pronounced appearance as well but honestly who can blame the envious here? The man is quite handsome, he’s not only wildly successful but talented beyond measure in multiple facets of the arts, and people like him. Oh, if they only had an ounce of any one of the things he has how much better or even just different their lives would be. It’s so obvious I can almost hear them thinking it.

Their attempt to make Depp their whipping boy has failed so miserably they’ve impaled themselves in a punji pit of their own creation with no hope of salvation. Their refusal to acknowledge the truth of what’s happening will ultimately be their undoing. They are too woke, in the worst of ways, for their own good and they won’t survive it. When the dust finally settles on all the court cases, and Depp is victorious in a landslide in each, they will have serious issues to consider and what direction they ultimately take will decide their fate. The public has already woken up, in the good way. They won’t stand for silence and certainly not for misinformed agenda narratives when all is said and done and, Res ipsa loquitur; the thing finally, truly, speaks for itself.

I read the following recently and I was rather taken with it, the seemingly hidden message and where it was printed not lost on me —
Let the truth be the prejudice.
