apr 3, 1973 - The Mobile Phone
Description:
This date marks the invention of the first successful mobile phone, by Martin Cooper of Motorola. Cooper realized, with the invention of the car phone, that people would rather be able to talk to other people from a handheld telephone as opposed to a telephone installed in a car or a house; that way, they could speak to others no matter where they were, as a personal connection. The first prototype of the mobile phone was a little on the bulkier side, but it was much smaller and lighter than telephones installed at static locations, which is what made it so revolutionary. With its continued development, and commercial availability about a decade later, it became widely used throughout the world, and is now a staple of human communication.
