jan 1, 1983 - The Internet
Description:
This date marks the official birth date of the Internet, accredited to computer scientists Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn. The original Internet was a communications protocol known as the Transfer Control Protocol/Internetwork Protocol (TCP/IP), the first brainchild of Cerf and Kahn, and allowed early computers to communicate with one another, though that connection was not publicly available. However, Cerf and Kahn made changes to the TCP/IP standard to allow for a much broader web of interconnected networks, hence its name, “Internet”. As the Internet grew in popularity, it was integrated into society and is now used by millions around the world, becoming more and more useful for a variety of things, including this online course.
