Description:

During the Israeli invasion of Egypt in the Suez War of 1956, the 202nd Brigade, commanded by Ariel Sharon, captured the pass without Israeli leadership approval. Sharon's forces faced the Egyptian 2nd Brigade, which had set an ambush. Notable Israelis, including Mordechai Gur and Uri Dan, were pinned down under fire on October 31, 1956. Aharon Davidi and Rafael Eitan led two companies to clear the Egyptians from the pass between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Israel suffered 40 casualties and 120 wounded, while Egyptian casualties were 260.
