jan 1, 1622 - Powhatans attack Jamestown

Description:

After the peace treaty for the first Anglo-Powhatan War in 1614, things were never really settled between Indians and whites. The natives were pressed by land-hungry whites and ravaged by European diseases, so they struck back in 1622 and left 347 settlers dead. In response, the Virginia Company called for "a perpetual war without peace or truce," one that would prevent the Indians "from being any longer a people".
