jan 1, 1967 - The Dangerous Drug Act 1967

Description:

Cocaine and heroin addiction became ten times more prevalent in the first half of the sixties and soft drugs such as cannabis became popular near the end of the period.

This fell within the fear of the permissive society particularly with the youth.

The Dangerous Drug Act made these hard drugs illegal. The Wolstein report suggested to keep cannabis legal, however the much less liberal James Callaghan forbade this.

This demonstrates the harsh reactions to the permissive society. However it mus tbe said that youths took more legal drugs than illegal drugs- such as tabacco and alcaholol.
