feb 19, 1944 - GI Bill
Description:
1944: The GI Bill was directed at settling men down after wartime by providing home
and business loans, employment services, college and vocational training, and
unemployment. As a model welfare system, the government transitioned to a more
active role in determining economic citizenship by providing financial support to specific groups. This initiative grew to represent 15% of the federal budget, and veterans eventually constituted ½ of the college student body by 1948 thanks to this bill.
