Description:
Feb. 1942: President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, authorizing the forced removal and incarceration of West Coast Japanese Americans because of military security concerns. This authorized military commanders the power to excluded civilians from designated “military areas” and led to unsubstantiated claims of military danger that necessitated the evacuation of Japanese Americans. The US government begins evacuating them early March.
